How do you get picked for NYC housing Connect? ›

Affordable housing applications are selected for review through a lottery process. If your application is selected and you appear to qualify for an apartment, you will be invited to an interview. That interview is to figure out if you are eligible for affordable housing.

Most people will report gross income on their applications. People who are self-employed report net income from self- employment instead. Income: Earnings, wages, payments, or other money you receive. Income from Employment: Income for work you do for an employer (not yourself).

According to the federal government, housing is “affordable” if it costs no more than 30% of the monthly household income for rent and utilities.
