While St. Louis and Kansas City have both seen 90 degree days as early as March, a hot day like that in Detroit typically falls around the beginning to middle of June. In fact records show, that the earliest 90 degrees day ever recorded in Detroit was on May 5, 1895–over a century ago!

From solely a population perspective, Detroit began its decline around 1953. According to the 1950 Census, Detroit had a population of 1.8 million. A mere decade later, the 1960 Census showed a population in the city of 1.6 million.
