What disqualifies you from getting unemployment in Maryland? ›

You won't be eligible for unemployment benefits if you quit your job voluntarily, without good cause. In general, good cause means that you had a compelling work-related reason that left you no other choice than to leave.

Once you completed your verification, it can take NJ Unemployment up to 15 business days to process. If you don't hear back after 15 business days, please reach out for support.

You may collect benefits only if you are out of work without fault. You may not be eligible for unemployment if you quit your job voluntarily, without good cause, or if you were fired for misconduct.

Most claims are processed within 14 days of receipt of a completed claim. You can log in to your account to check the status of your DI claim at any time. Note: For the status of your PFL claim, you must call 1-877-238-4373.

Once your leave begins, you must return to your draft to certify and submit your application. If applying after your leave begins, you have 30 days from your first day of leave to file your application. How is the unemployment rate calculated? ›

The unemployment rate represents the number of unemployed people as a percentage of the labor force (the labor force is the sum of the employed and unemployed). The unemployment rate is calculated as: (Unemployed ÷ Labor Force) x 100.

Within a week after filing your first claim, you should receive a Notice of Monetary Determination in the mail.

If you qualify for Unemployment Insurance benefits, the amount of money you'll get each week is called your weekly benefit rate (WBR). This amount will depend on how much you earned in the base year period before you applied for Unemployment Insurance benefits.

Necessitous or compelling personal reasons other than health problems may constitute valid circ*mstances. However, no necessitous or compelling situation can amount to a valid circ*mstance unless the claimant shows that there was no reasonable alternative other than to leave the employment.

Unemployment insurance benefits range from a weekly benefit amount (WBA) of $50 per week to a WBA of $430 per week. Your WBA is determined by your wages during your base period. Your claim is effective on the Sunday immediately prior to the date that you file for benefits, and remains in effect for one year.

Documents to file unemployment

These include personal information and employment history for the last 18 months. You'll need the name, address, and phone number for all your employers during that time. You may be asked for pay stubs, W-2 and 1099 forms, tax return and more.

Effective Sunday, July 4, 2021, to maintain eligibility for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits, you must actively search for work during each week that you request benefit payments.
